About the event
The GXI is the industry’s leading source of data and insight on interconnection and its increasing impact on the digital world. It provides insights on companies, industries, and traffic patterns as the world shifts to a digital-first imperative. As an example, when we subscribe to digital streaming services such as Netflix or Spotify, we are participating in the digital economy and the GXI measures the growth of the global digital economy.
The GXI Vol. 5 is forecasting the total capacity provisioned to privately and directly exchange traffic with a diverse and growing set of counterparties and providers at distributed IT exchange points. It is benchmarking the journey leaders are taking as they transform to digital.
Some exciting findings from GXI Vol. 5:
- The pandemic has forced economies into digital overdrive, with digital leaders, businesses who were already implementing a digital-first strategy, moving four times faster than pre-pandemic levels. Businesses have compacted the time to deploy their digital infrastructure to multiple regions, expand to multiple edge locations, and integrate multiple clouds.
- GXI Vol. 5 has revealed that entire industries are rethinking their business from edge to cloud; hybrid cloud is a given, but ecosystems and edge matter most; as a Service is the preferred cloud choice everywhere; and digital leaders are moving 4.5x further ahead in their digital infrastructure deployments. In fact, what they’ve previously accomplished in two years, many are achieving in six months.
- Digital leaders are interconnecting with 10 times as many partners, enabling them to ride the wave of digital transformation and enjoy best-of-breed services from a vast pool of service providers and partners.
- Close to 30% of enterprise infrastructure deployed in carrier-neutral facilities has moved to the edge, in proximity to points of data consumption.
- The public sector, healthcare and life sciences, industrial services and transportation industries are expected to experience the fastest digital infrastructure growth. These industries that were previously lagging in interconnection adoption are now leading in interconnection growth rate as a result of the pandemic.
- The Global Interconnection Index Volume 5 (GXI Vol. 5) forecasts that overall interconnection bandwidth will reach 21,485+ terabits per second (Tbps), or 85 zettabytes, per year by 2024, representing a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 44%.
